It’s Time For A Change
The legal landscape is evolving rapidly – and at the Law Society of Singapore, we are ready to do whatever we can to lead the change. As we blink and emerge into a post-pandemic world, it’s time to re-evaluate our old conventions and habits. Do they still serve us, our members, or our industry as a whole? How can the legal profession adapt to deliver sustainable, world-leading legal services in an ever-changing digital landscape?
To meet this challenge, we are excited to announce the revamped Legal Industry Transformation (formerly Legal Productivity and Innovation) Department. What initially started off as a project in 2016 to increase technology adoption within the profession has now grown into a much needed, fully-fledged team.
When this project first began, its purpose was simple – to maximise the cost-effectiveness of legal practice through the use of technology. Today, our goal is far more ambitious – we’re embracing a much broader culture shift, exploring how wide-scale innovation can help us create a competitive and viable roadmap for Singapore lawyers as we look to the future.
As we move into the new year, our department is excited to commit to three key objectives:
- Innovation: To develop and implement innovative capability development initiatives to promote legal innovation, digital transformation and best business management practices in the legal industry.
- Digitalisation: To promote the adoption of technology amongst law firms to increase productivity, efficiency and achieve a competitive advantage.
- Community: To enhance member engagement by building a community of like-minded practitioners at the forefront of technology and innovation.
What to Expect
Throughout this year, you can expect to see a number of initiatives being launched and improved, including:
Raising The Bar: From its successful inaugural launch last year, our key project continues to grow, helping small and mid-sized firms innovate and transform their businesses to compete in a digital world. Stand by for some exciting content showcasing the success of the programme so far, and our vision for the year.
SmartLaw Guild: 2022 will be a year to strengthen the community. A platform for law firms at the forefront of innovation and technology, we aim to introduce a number of key developments to the programme. Watch this space.
Legal Technology Platform Initiative: We are also excited to be helping the Ministry of Law facilitate the official launch of the new industry-wide Legal Tech Platform (‘LTP’) this year. The LTP is a matters management tool designed around legal workflows that will be integrated with legaltech solutions commonly used by Singapore lawyers. The aim is to promote interoperability and ease of use between the different legaltech solutions that lawyers utilise day-to-day in their legal workflows.
As we dive into the new year, we are excited to help and guide our members through this upcoming period of transformation – for the better!
